Collection Schedule

All residential services (yard waste, recycle, and garbage) will be picked up every Thursday unless notified otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions  

How much yard debris can I put out and not be charged extra?  
Up to three  96-gallon yard waste carts from Republic Services (no personal yard waste containers will be collected) 
Can I recycle plastic grocery bags?  
Yes bundle them into one bag and tie and put into your recycle container. 
Is Styrofoam recyclable?  
Styrofoam must be bagged and placed in the garbage. 
What do I do with food scraps if I don’t have any yard debris?  
Bag your food scraps and place into the garbage.

Can I recycle plastic pots? (Used for plants)  
Yes. Clean them (no dirt) and place in your blue recycle cart.  
What numbers are recyclable?  
1,2,3,4,5 and 7.
What is the hazardous waste fee?  
It is a Washington State mandatory fee. 
How many months am I billed for?  
The City of Monroe bills for solid waste services. They can be reached at 360-794-7400. 
Can I put small animals in the garbage?  
Double bag and place in garbage. 
What do I do with shredded paper?  
Put in clear tied plastic bag with secure knot and put into recycle – or – place (unbagged) in your 
yard debris container. 
Can animal waste go in the yard debris container?  
No, it needs to be bagged and placed into the garbage container (double bagged, preferred). 
What time do I have to have my containers out?  
6:30 am 
What holidays will affect my pickup day?  
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.  
If your collection falls on or after that day during the collection week, your pick-up day will shift one day. 
(If New Year’s Day falls on Monday, those normally collected on Monday will be collected on 
Tuesday customers will be collected on Wednesday;  
Wednesday customers will be collected on Thursday;  
Thursday customers will be collected on Friday, and  
Friday customers will be collected on Saturday.) 
Can I put wood in the yard waste and how much?  
Small amounts of untreated wood can go into your green yard debris container. 
Are window glass and mirrors recyclable?  
No. They must be bagged and placed in your garbage container. 
Are plastic CD covers recyclable? 
No. Neither is the CD itself. 
What do I do with excess yard waste and dirt, rock or sod?  
Pacific Topsoil takes excess yard waste, dirt, rock and sod.
