Garbage Glossary


  • Baler

    Balers are used to compact waste and recyclables (such as cans, plastics, paper and cardboard) into blocks that can be stacked at a landfill or recycling center. These waste blocks vary in size and weight, depending on the size of the baler.

  • Biodegradable material

    Any organic material (substances of animal or vegetable origin, such as food, leaves, wood, corn, grass clippings, paper) that can be broken down (decomposed) and reused as compost or as possible sources of alternative energy, such as Biogas.
